In view here is not the use of a perscription drug prescribed to the individul useing them, and as perscribed, but of street drug use.
Drugs and the Mind: The effects of drugs have various effect on the mind and the judgement of those using them. Drugs produce and euphoric and accelerated state of mind, a state of well being, which is generally the purpose of the use of them. The Bible teaches us to be sober minded (Tit 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, Tit 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Tit 2:6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded). (1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;) (KJV)
When it comes to producing the effects of “not real” man does not need the assistance of chemicals. (cp. Prov 14:12, 15 2 Cor 13:5)
Use of Drugs Promotes Dependency: The use of drugs will result in dependency with habitual use. The Bible teaches use self control and against dependency (1Cor. 9:24-27, 2Pet. 1:6. Peter taught: )2Pe 2:19 promising them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom anyone has been overcome, even to this one he has been enslaved.)
The Cause: Well, there are numerous possibilities that cause one to turn to drug use; anxiety for one. The Bible teaches us not to be anxious (Phil 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.) Pleasure seekers is another reason. The Bible teaches us (2Ti 3:4 traitors, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,) Then there are those that lack of courage. The Bible teaches us: (1Co 16:13 Watch! Stand fast in the faith! Be men! Be strong)
One of the fruits of the flesh “witchcraft: has a history of drug use:
witchcraft; any real or pretended league and association with the devil, seeking to converse with familiar spirits, to gain unlawful knowledge, or to do hurt to fellow creatures; which, as it is doing honour to Satan, detracts from the glory of God, and rightly follows idolatry; conjuration, soothsaying, necromancy, and all kind of magic are included and condemned hereby (cp. Gal 5:20)
Jas 4:7 Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
