God’s Love and Purpose
God loves you and desires that you have eternal life.
1Ti 2:3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
1Ti 2:4 who will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1Jn 4:16And we have known and believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
God wants us to live forever, but something separates us from God and keeps us from having eternal life. What is causing the division?
Our Problem: Separation and Judgment
Sin separates us from God. We were created with the ability to choose. However, we choose to disobey God and sin.
Rom 3:23for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,
Isa 59:2But your iniquities have come between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing.
Psa 24:3Who shall go up into the hill of Jehovah? Or who shall stand in His holy place?
Psa 24:4He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, and has not sworn deceitfully.
Sin makes our hands dirty and our hearts impure. Therefore, we are not able to get into heaven.
Because of our sin, we deserve punishment.
Rom 6:23a“For the wages of sin is death…”
God wants to forgive you, but he must also punish sin.
Heb 9:22And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission.
As you can see, in order to be forgiven, punishment must take place.
God’s Provision: Christ
God provides a way to satisfy both justice and his desire to forgive you.
Isa 53:6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, each one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Joh 3:16For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.
Joh 3:18He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.
Rom 5:8But God commends His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
Jesus took the punishment for you. Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to pay the penalty of our sin. Jesus bridges the ravine separating us from God.
God provided the only way to be saved. The only way to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ. The good news is this gift is offered to whoever will accept it. This gift is given freely out of God’s love.
Joh 14:6Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.
Act 4:12And there is salvation in no other One; for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Rom 6:23b …but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
We cannot earn this gift. We don’t deserve it. However, we can have it if we accept it.
Eph 2:4But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us
Eph 2:5(even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),
Eph 2:6and has raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,
Eph 2:7so that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God,
Eph 2:9not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Our Response: Repent and Believe
You can be forgiven and be saved if you believe in Jesus as your savior.
God promise that whoever confesses and believes in Jesus will be saved.
How to receive Christ:
Receiving Christ is as easy as A-B-C.
A – Admit your sins
You must first repent of your sins. This means turning away from them and asking God to forgive you.
Act 3:19Therefore repent and convert so that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
B – Believe and Confess
What does it mean to believe? It means to trust your life to Jesus. If you jump out of a falling airplane with a parachute, you don’t just know the parachute will save you. You believe it! You trust your life to the parachute. Similarly, believing in Jesus means trusting your eternal life to him.
Act 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, and your household.
Rom 10:9Because if you confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
Rom 10:10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation.
Rom 10:13For everyone, “whoever shall call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
C – Call on Jesus as Your Savior
Through prayer, invite Jesus to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit. If you are not sure how to pray, use the following prayer as an example, (saying these words will not save you, but trusting in Christ will)
“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
If you sincerely prayed this prayer and asked Jesus to come into your life, God has done something wonderful for you!
Rom 5:1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Jn 5:12He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1Jn 5:13I have written these things to you who believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have everlasting life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.
